Small Town Music is turning sweet 16 — not bad for something that started in a bedroom in the suburbs of Nelsparta. From those humble beginnings, STM has been blessed with music notes, photographs, stories and experiences we never thought would come our way.
Then Covid hit… and like everything else, the way people consume music changed. We had to adapt. Suddenly, we weren’t the fresh, young kids anymore — we were somewhere in our 30s, not quite sure if we’re tannie and oom… or just the weird ones next to the stage.
We chose weird. Obviously. Always the weird ones. Always will be.
So ja, it was time to move with the times.
After an inspiring chat with some Lowveld legends, and a proper “think tank” session in the shower (where all great ideas are born), it hit us — people would probably love to hear about music the way we experience it. Not just read it… but hear it, feel it, understand it.
And just like that, Musiek Momentum was born.
After pitching the idea to the awesome team at Radio Laeveld 100.5FM, we were given the opportunity to take STM from readers to listeners — and that’s a whole new vibe.
Every Tuesday from 5 pm, catch Marley from STM on Die Middag Game Drive met Coenie Naudé, chatting about a different artist each week. The focus? South African artists — whether they’re international chart-toppers, Grammy winners, or that youngster with a guitar and a dream.
Musiek Momentum dives deeper than just the hits — we chat about the stories behind the songs, where the artists come from, what they’ve achieved, and whether they’re still making music. The goal? To connect you to the music in a way that actually means something.
Launching February 2026, Musiek Momentum promises a bit of everything — nostalgia, new discoveries, random “what did I just hear?” moments… and hopefully a few sing-out-loud-in-traffic situations.
Because that’s what music does. It holds memories. It carries emotions. It brings back moments you forgot you had.
And maybe — just maybe — the next time an artist comes to town, you’ll grab a ticket not because you know the name… but because you felt something.
We’re seriously excited about this one, and we hope you will be too.
You can stream Radio Laeveld 100.5FM on your favourite app or tune in on your car radio every Tuesday from 5pm.
Small Town Music — for the fans, by the fans.
