By Marley

As a Lowvelder, I don’t drive a Toyota, nor do I own a khaki shirt to match. But I do have a lekker vibe – and a FOPK shirt – which I’ll be proudly wearing at this year’s Toyota Innibos 2025.

Toyota represents reliability, perseverance, and a forward-thinking attitude – values that align perfectly with Innibos’ mission to celebrate South African music, art, and culture. And this year’s theme? “LEKKER.” One of my all-time favourite Afrikaans words – and one you can use in almost any situation.
How’s it going? Lekker.
How was the weekend? Lekker!
Do you want a beer? Lekker!
What did you think of the rugby? Eh… let’s not go there – this is a music-themed write-up after all.

When I heard Toyota had come aboard as a sponsor, I immediately thought of a few tunes, especially Loufi & Gerhard Steyn’s “Vat die Cruiser.” So yes, vat die Cruiser, pack it up – because you’ll want to be lekker.

My Don’t-Miss Picks for Innibos 2025

Before I dive into the highlights, can we just give a shoutout to the Innibos team? In a world where everything seems to be going up in price, they’ve managed to keep their ticket prices the same as last year – in honour of their 21st anniversary. Unheard of. But then again, Innibos is net lekker mense.

Main Stage – Lekker Popular

From boeremusiek to rock ‘n roll, the Main Stage nights are not to be missed.

  • Thursday, 3 July 2025 kicks off with the Huisgenoot Afskopkonsert, featuring Francois van Coke, Appel, Jay, Chris Steyn, and a few stunning ladies. A night for the young at heart. Tickets: R210 (please note – no golden circle).
  • Friday, 4 July 2025 sees Nelspruit painted purple with the Jacaranda FM Konsert. Performers include Martin Bester, Bok van Blerk, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Danny Smoke, and more. Tickets: R260.
  • And then, the big one:
Saturday, 5 July 2025 – the kykNET Konsert featuring Zaan Sonnekus, Van Pletzen, Jo Black, Demi Lee Moore, Die Piesangskille, Refentse and more. This is the one people camp out for. Tickets: R310 – and it includes full access to the festival grounds.

Kuiertafels – Sold Out Faster Than You Can Sing “Sarie Maré”

Yup. Gone.

No Alternatief Stage This Year 😢

…but in its place? A full-on yee-haw for the line dancers:

The kykNET Country Stage

Time to spit-shine those cowboy boots, press those pleated shirts, and rev your Toyota – it’s the first-ever kykNET Country Stage! Featuring Cordelia, Skemer, Franja du Plessis, Ruan Josh, and Chris Else.
This stage is only on Saturday, 5 July, and is included in your main ticket. (Now I’m wondering… are horses allowed?)

AKTV Boeke-Oase – Where Stories Come Alive

I’ve always loved the smell of books – and reading musician biographies is my soft spot. The AKTV Boeke-Oase brings us closer to the stories behind the songs.

This year, step into the world of Francois van Coke and Annie Klopper with “Hoe ek dit onthou” ( author of Biografie van ‘n bende). If you haven’t read it, now’s the time – and yes, you can grab a hardcopy onsite.

📖 Don’t miss their talk:
Thursday, 3 July at 14:00 at the Boeke-Oase on the main festival terrain.

Also appearing: some of Afrikaans literature’s finest, including Dana Snyman, who will be specially honoured this year.

RSG Radio – Broadcasting & Sound Workshop

Radio Sonder Grense (RSG) covers everything from politics to rock ‘n roll, and they’ll be broadcasting live from Innibos 2025.

But here’s the cherry on top: a sound engineering workshop for those interested in voice-over work, audio careers, or just curious about the craft.

🎧 Limited seats available – SMS “Klankskool” and your name & surname to 082 879 9333 to book.

Afrikaans – 100 Years Young

Yes, young! Afrikaans is one of the world’s youngest languages – and one of the most expressive. I often switch mid-sentence because English just doesn’t cut it sometimes.

One of my favourite idioms?
“Dit reën katte en honde” – it’s raining cats and dogs.

Afrikaans lives in books, films, music, poetry, sport, braais – even across borders.
Festival manager Andy Lubbe said it best:

“Afrikaans is not just words on paper, nor is it just another language. It is our heartbeat.”

Bars, theatres and entry gates are fully cashless. Most vendors are, but check before you buy. Get your entry and production tickets at TicketPro.

My Favourite Afrikaans Words?

Hard to choose – but I’ve narrowed it down to two:
Laeveld huisLowveld home.
Because no matter where I go, the Lowveld will always be home.

So, pack the Toyota, meet me left of the stage, and let’s be lekker on the lekkerness at Toyota Innibos 2025.
