He brought us the Weekend Surgery for years, then he moved to the drive time slot and in 2017 5FM’s Roger Goode is waking us up in the weekday mornings. Mr Goode also came back to Nelsparta where he woke up the dance floor at Jock with addictive beats and of course his crazy personality.
The question I was asked 90% of the evening and afterwards “Is he really Goode?” Uhm, ya dude, you should actually come out of your cage some time and listen to one of the best in the country. I know many DJ’s I’ve spoken to in the past, naturally assumes that Roger is just another commercial DJ because of his radio work. Let me tell you, this man behind the decks is really something to watch. He doesn’t show up with just what he prepared but he remixes what has already been mixed. My technical terms for everything isn’t as sharp as what I know about rock music. BUT! I can tell the difference between quantity and quality and the QUALITY that Roger lets out of the decks and into the speakers which went through our ears had the crowd dancing till the early hours of the morning. Every time I listen to one of his mixes it feels like summer.
Just like last October when he first visited Jock, Roger was still the humble guy I met last time. I expected again nothing but the best from him and I wasn’t disappointed. Fans from Maputo Mozambique, PE Eastern Cape, Kayamazane, White River, Cape Town and of course Nelsparta was on the floor. For an extremely hot summers night in the Lowveld, the tequila, beer and cocktails flowed. It was a party of note. So many people missed it and yes you are kicking yourself. The people who were there enjoyed themselves and (I think) Roger too. He even did a live Instagram broadcast from his whole set. If you go through his videos you might find some Nelspartans dancing their hearts out.
The night ended at 02:00 when the bar closed. If it wasn’t for that rule I think personally we would have all partied until sunrise with Roger on the decks. The beats were anything and everything from house to dub-step, it had us dancing, sweating and feeling like we were in summer finally. He read the crowd perfectly and I take my hat off for him. He has been doing this for the last 16 years or so. Coming a long way from his first hit “To Move You” (which Pete Tong, by the way, picked up back in the day and sent our Roger off into the world). He is a master at producing, self-taught piano player and all-round funny guy.
It’s always a pleasure to photography Roger, he is certainly one of the top DJ’s we have in South Africa and we were privileged that this man drove down for the Nelsparta fans that loves him dearly. If you want to know more, I suggest you switch your radio on between 06:00 – 09:00 Monday’s to Friday’s to listen to what The Roger Goode Show can bring you – laughter. And Friday legends between 18:00 – 19:00 catch Roger on the mix once a month. Trust me, expect the unexpected. Be prepared to become addicted and have Dodgy Uncle Rogy make your summer an unforgettable.
When is the next party Roger?
