It’s the Monday after Bad Peter’s amazing warm gig at The Pub last Friday 07 May 2021. As I listen to their music typing this I can feel the happy little joys kicking inside of my heart like their kick drum petal.

Bad Peter has been visiting the Lowveld since around 2017 and they are truly loved by their fans here. As we entered The Pub it was like entering your favourite person’s home (in our case Ettienne) and you could readily see the smiles of the people around. With Covid and hard lockdown the live music and entertainment section has taken serious knocks, this includes bands like Bad Peter.

But that didn’t stop PG Badenhorst and Alwyn Bekker to start The Bad Peter Music School. Online lessons provide you with the skills and mastering of your guitar talent and more – always wanted to learn how to play the guitar? Then the Bad Peter Music School is just for you. Plus, you support two humble guys who have families and not a big corporation that is just nameless.

Getting back to Friday night, the winter chill has arrived in the Lowveld and it is welcomed after our deadly hot winter. It’s hugs, yes we know social distancing and all but hugs are needed. Just under 80 people came through the doors the evening to enjoy the folky tunes of Bad Peter. Dinner for us was a burger and potato wedges, a recommend meal.

When the boys took the stage in typical Lowveld style everyone was sitting down. Except for a fan or two dancing in the back of the restaurant to the tunes. The boys delivered live performances of songs like “Month of May”, “Brother”, “Stupid on a Sunday” and “Let Go”. They also did a few new songs that I am sure we will hear soon on a new EP. After a short break, the boys were back on stage and the fans decided it was time to dance in front of the stage and soon everyone joined in. Let me tell you, bands love it when they can get their fans on their feet.

“On This River” and “Faithful Lover” is the firm fan favourites no matter where I have seen them – on the beach of STRAB or at Innibos. I must say that RSG (SABC radio station) plays the last mentioned quite often. Since 5FM told them that their music isn’t truly in their listeners’ genre the boys wrote a song called “Need To Hear” and submitted it, and again, 5FM sent it back to them. Their loss and our gain because Bad Peter brought spring back in the winter to The Pub. Nelspruit needed the happy songs after the hard year that 2019 was.

Thank you again Bad Peter for giving us the happy vibes, the memories and the laughs till late on Friday night. It certainly lifted the spirits of the Lowvelders that was there. Please don’t wait too long to visit us again. Thank you to Ettienne and his amazing team at The Pub for looking after us.
