We are counting the days down to Woodcrock 13.1 that will take place at Blue Moon just outside of Mbombela. Thanks to Olaf Berg and Belgravia for making it all possible. What is unique of this Woodcrock is the fantastic line up of Lowveld based bands that will also be at Woodcrock 2019.
Soul Taxi might be a new name on the Lowveld music scene but is in fact quite not so new. When Gibraltar called it a day and new band was formed they mixed in the Johnny & The Latin Blues Express as well. Soul Taxi was born and they are already a popular band to book at your pub, wedding and surprise birthday party. Along with the top bands of SA, Soul Taxi will be performing at Woodcrock 13.1 at the end of August.
We asked Jaime Negrao (lead vocalist and guitar) just a few questions to get our taste buds ready for their show at Woodcrock;
STM: In short, who is Soul Taxi and where are you from?
ST: Soul Taxi is a 4 piece band that consists of members from 2 old Lowveld bands, Gibraltar & Johnny and the Latin Blues Express.
STM: Where does the name “Soul Taxi” come from?
ST: The band covers a wide variety of music styles and the idea was to take people on a soul trip playing different types of music. So we opted for a South African iconic form of transport, the taxi. There’s room for all.
STM: What is your fondest memory of Blue Moon?
ST: Probably too many. The Blue Moon has always held a special place for us. Not only have we seen some awesome music coming out of the dome but we have played some great shows there too. Personally, the fondest memory for me was sharing the stage with Larry Amos (Baxtop) one of my childhood heroes.
STM: You have one golden circle ticket to see any band/artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
ST: Gov’t Mule
STM: Lastly, what can people expect from the Soul Taxi boys on stage at Woodcrock in August?
ST: We will definitely be doing one or 2 songs from the Woodstock era but all we want and hope, is to give the crowd a good time. We believe it’s all about having fun and sharing the music we play with the audience.
You can catch Soul Taxi on stage at Woodcrock 13.1 on the weekend of 30 -31 August 2019 at the one and only Blue Moon. They will be sharing the stage with others like Solid Ground, Jonathan Peyper, Crimson House, Southern Gypsey Queen, The Black Cat Bones and many more.
Tickets are R200 online at Quicket or at the gate for R250. Camping is available but limited, please email Jessica for more information. Follow Soul Taxi on Instagram or like their Facebook page.
